Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

We have the best specialists

Mastopexy, also known as a breast lift, is a surgical procedure designed to lift and reshape sagging breasts. Over time, factors such as ageing, pregnancy, weight fluctuations, and gravity can cause the breasts to lose their firmness and elasticity. A mastopexy helps to restore a more youthful and lifted appearance to the breasts, enhancing the overall shape and contour.

But where do you begin when searching for a breast lift treatment in the Dominican Republic? And how do you find a doctor that’s right for you? This is where MEDIX comes in. Our team of Health Managers are here to support you on your treatment journey, helping you to find a doctor based on criteria that matters to you.

Mastopexy is typically performed under general anesthesia and involves the following steps:

❱ Anesthesia: The patient is administered general anesthesia to ensure comfort during the procedure.
❱ Incision: The surgeon will make carefully planned incisions on the breasts, taking into consideration the desired degree of lift and the individual’s unique anatomy. The three common incision types used in mastopexy are:
Periareolar Incision: A circular incision is made around the areola (the darker skin surrounding the nipple).
Vertical Incision: A lollipop-shaped incision is made around the areola and extends vertically down to the breast crease.
Anchor Incision: This incision follows the pattern of a vertical incision but also includes a horizontal incision along the breast crease.
❱ Reshaping and Repositioning: Excess skin is removed, and the underlying breast tissue is lifted and reshaped to achieve a more youthful contour. The areola and nipple may also be repositioned to a higher, more aesthetically pleasing position.
❱ Closing the Incisions: The incisions are meticulously closed with sutures, and the breasts are wrapped in a supportive bandage or surgical bra to aid in the healing process.

After a mastopexy, it is essential to follow your surgeon’s post-operative instructions for optimal healing and recovery. These instructions may include:

❱ Wearing a supportive bra or compression garment as recommended
❱ Avoiding strenuous activities and heavy lifting for a few weeks
❱ Taking prescribed medications to manage pain and prevent infection
❱ Attending follow-up appointments with your surgeon to monitor healing progress

As with any surgical procedure, mastopexy carries some risks and potential side effects, including:

❱ Changes in nipple or breast sensation, which are usually temporary
